The WordCity (“we”, “us”) is a church at 57 Yaya Abatan Road, Ifako, Lagos, Nigeria. This policy explains what information we collect through thewordcityglobal.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Questions and opinions (Ask a Question): the text you send and, if you choose one, the service it relates to. We don't ask for your name, so questions are anonymous.
- Testimonies: your title and story, and optionally your name and email, plus your choices about sharing it publicly or during a service.
- I'm New (first-time visitors): your name, email, and optionally your phone number, birthday, gender, marital status, how you heard about us, and any prayer request.
- See Rev. Tony (counselling bookings): your name, the reason for the visit and any note you add.
- Church members: when you join the church, our team may record your name, contact details, birthday, gender, marital status and photo.
- Church team: staff who sign in to manage the website do so with Google, which shares their name, email address and profile photo with us.
Information collected automatically
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to understand how the site is used — pages visited, device and browser type, and approximate location. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this.
- Embedded media: sermons, livestreams and audio are played through YouTube and Mixlr, which may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
How we use it
- To answer questions and read out responses during services.
- To welcome and follow up with visitors, and to pray for requests you share.
- To arrange your time with the Pastor.
- To share testimonies, only in the ways you've agreed to.
- To care for our members, including remembering birthdays.
- To run, secure and improve the website.
We never sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Sensitive information
Prayer requests, counselling notes and testimonies can reveal your religious beliefs, health or personal circumstances. Only the members of our team who need them can see them: counselling, visitor and member details are limited to our care team. Please share only what you're comfortable with.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers to run the website. They process data only on our behalf:
- Supabase — database and sign-in
- Vercel and Render — website and server hosting
- Cloudflare — storage for audio and images
- Google — sign-in for our team, analytics and YouTube
- Mixlr — live audio
Some of these providers store data outside Nigeria. We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Questions and counselling bookings are kept for our records and can be deleted on request; member details are kept while you're part of the church.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Email thewordcityglobal@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
Our forms aren't intended for children under 13. If you're a parent and believe your child has sent us information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Keeping it safe
Information is sent over encrypted connections, and access to our admin area is by invitation only, with each team member limited to what their role needs. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you share.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page. Please also read our Terms of Service.
